I. JOB OVERVIEW

Job Description Summary:
The School of Media and Public Affairs (SMPA) is a leader in media, journalism, and political communication instruction and research. As part of the Columbian College of Arts and Sciences (CCAS), we have built our international reputation on the strength of a liberal arts education. We bring Washington into the classroom with a focus on how the media inform and influence policy and politics in a democracy.
The Institute for Public Diplomacy and Global Communication (IPDGC) is a leading organization in the field of public diplomacy and global communication and jointly administered by the SMPA out of the Elliott School of International Affairs. The Program Assistant IPDGC assists the Program Director in programming, communications and administration of program and institute. Specific job functions include: 
1. Administrative Coordinator for Global Communication students and prospective students
2. Plans Global Communication social outreach and maintains social media presence on Facebook and Twitter for both Master of Arts program and IPDGC
3. Edits and maintains "Take Five" blog website for IPDGC
5. Plans, organizes and executes several events a semester for IPDGC, including arranging travel and payments for speakers
6. Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma/GED, or equivalent combination of training and experience, is necessary plus 1.5 years of relevant experience. Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications:
Prior professional experience facilitating projects or program management is encouraged.
Experience with marketing, outreach and academic recruiting.
Experience with website design and web maintenance is encouraged.
Experience with international students and/or in educational environment is desirable.
Excellent communication, customer service, and organizational skills are preferred.
Familiarity with word processing, database management, Excel, and PowerPoint preferred.
Strong, demonstrated teamwork skills.
Strong social networking skills.
