Job Summary
The Government Relations Officer will join the Public Diplomacy Department of the Consulate General of Israel in Toronto.
As Government Relations Officer, you will have a dynamic role. The focus of your work will be to expand and strengthen the Consulate General’s relationship with federal, provincial, and municipal elected officials and governmental agencies in the Consulate General’s area of jurisdiction (Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia, Nunavut, Yukon, and Northwest Territories). You will be the primary point of contact at the Consulate General for government officials and will be the face of the Consulate General at public events.
Candidates must be available to begin immediately.
Responsibilities and Duties
Responsibilities:
  • Coordinating events and meetings, including for visiting Israeli officials;
  • Tracking political news (national and regional);
  • Providing daily political briefings to the Consul General;
  • Establishing and maintaining strong relationships with governmental staff;
  • Serving as primary liaison to political advocacy organizations;
  • Preparing the Consul General for meetings and developing timely follow-up reports.
Qualifications and Skills
Requirements:
  • At a minimum, a bachelor’s degree from a recognized Canadian university;
  • Must have good knowledge of Facebook, Twitter, and other social media platforms;
  • Must have superior communication skills in English. Ability to speak Hebrew and/or French is an asset;
  • 1-2 years’ experience working in a political office or commensurate experience;
  • Experience and familiarity with the structure of provincial legislatures and the federal Parliament;
  • Familiarity with Hansard and ability to research elected officials’ Parliamentary activities (ie. Interventions; Committees, etc.);
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills and be team-oriented;
  • Must be willing to work overtime and weekends as necessary;
  • Must be innovative, creative, and have a willingness to learn;
  • Be flexible and able to effectively manage a number of tasks/projects at once;
  • Must take initiative, be energetic, driven, and be highly responsible.
