MGIMO Welcomes Armenian Ambassador Vardan Toghanyan

December 14th, the Ambassador of Armenia to Russia Vardan Toghanyan came to MGIMO [Moscow State Institute of International Relations -- JB: see] to give a talk to students of the University on «The Role of Youth in the Development of Armenian-Russian Relations».

The Head of MGIMO’s International Office Egor Andreev greeted the guest, spoke about the activities of the Armenian community at the University and the cooperation agreements MGIMO has signed with a number of higher education institutions in Armenia. Egor Andreev also reminded the audience that both the Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan and Foreign Minister Eduard Nalbandyan are honorary doctors of MGIMO.

Vardan Toghanyan started his lecture by describing the current state of bilateral relations, their cultural, historical, political and economic specificities and the integration processes, which Armenia participates in. The Ambassador spoke about matters of concern to youth and described the role of embassies in developing public diplomacy. The speaker also emphasized the importance of expanding the dialogue between Russian and Armenian youth.

After his talk, Vardan Toghanyan took questions from the audience and wished students the best of luck in their upcoming exams. After their exchange with the Ambassador, students from the Armenian community decided to actively cooperate with the embassy in view of preparing the events for the celebration of the 2800th anniversary of Yerevan in 2018.
